How soon after i lay the 1st layer of glass with epoxy resin can I go back and put the 2nd layer on?
Do I have to wait or can I do it immediately?

do it immediately because if you don't once it's dry you got to grind it for more glass to adhere to it.

tennpenn,

Don't wait for it to completely harden, you will have to rough the surface. There should be some recommendations on the product you are using. Generally, the epoxy as it cures will release gases (this can cause bubbles in the glass), you want to make sure you are not laying up too much or overcoating too thickly as to not allow the gases to escape.

It is also going to depend on the cure rate of the epoxy you are using, slow cure? fast cure? All of it makes a difference in the layup.

If you are unsure, wait for it to set, then lightly sand before next coat to remove the sheen.

Peace.

I wait until the previous coat of epoxy has cured some, but is still tacky. This allows you to stick, smooth out, and trim the next layer of cloth which is then held in place while applying epoxy to it. This technique works very well for covering complex shapes also where the glass tends to want to pull away from the surface.

No more than 48 hours or your gonna be sanding that first layer. Basically when its tacky to the touch lay the next coat or wait 24 hours.

Worked for me. I used US Composites and System3 epoxies.
