busy day on East Fork Lake near Cincinnati. Heading in, I get to the ramp and there are 3 dudes in daddy's boat with a ton of ballast, music blaring, wake surfing, in tiny circles around the no-wake buoy.

tie up our 17 foot bowrider and it's rocking against the dock, over and over. same situation when i trailer it.

i like wake surfing as much as the next guy, but come on, you know there's a better place to do that. is this ignorance or malice?

Ignorance. 9 times of 10. When you find the 1 of 10, for sure(ish). Shoot first, ask later.

That is when I would gather as many other boaters as possible and go out and park right in their way and keep pushing them out, letting them know that by law, THEY are responsible for ANY damage their wakes cause. Get their registration #'s and tell them to let their daddy know they might be getting some letters/bills.

i was leaning toward ignorance. i don't understand how people get like this, but some just cannot comprehend the effects of their actions on others. i would say it's psychopathy, but that's a little dramatic ;)

in any event, it was fine, no damage and i got loaded up okay. just annoying. and my wife's 19 weeks pregnant, you don't want to mess with pregnant women. she flipped them off 3 times.

I know what you mean about people not realizing how their actions effect other people. Sometimes I wonder if they don't know how much trouble they are causing for others, or if they just don't care.

Congrats to you and your wife on the soon to be addition to your family!!!!

Minnetonka is currently no wake 600 feet from shore. Truely amazing how many folks today can't tell the difference between 600 feet and 50 feet.

It also amazes me that so many people need to cut in between people that are sitting anchored, even though there are miles of empty lake that they could use without bothering people.

Sorry to hear that happened at East Fork. I was a Caesars Creek with my family, and although it was busy, I didn't see any blatant disregard like you described. Not sure if I would have intervened, but would likely get their registration numbers and called the it in.

good to see a fellow SW ohio boater here! i love east fork, and it's rare that something weird happens. unless you count the people fishing off the ramp docks :)

i'll be up at caesar creek next weekend. look for the yellow trimmed four winns horizon 170!

That would be two football fields minus the endzones. That's how I judge distance.

Am I the only one who keeps a 20oz Sinker on a casting rod, just for this exact scenario?:D

There are some really good cops that could handle this without causing things to escalate. Because they come from a perceived position of authority, they can solve issues like this without anybody getting a ticket or going to jail as long as they communicate well. Sadly, most private interventions end up making things worse, and people often end up in jail; possible the good Samaritan with good intentions. When I look at this kind of stuff I say to myself "what is my goal here?" If it is to teach somebody a lesson, or help them see their own ignorance, I know I will fail. So usually I leave it alone. There are exceptions where attitudes and circumstances allow intervention and may lead to a positive outcome. I am not sure what to do with the majority though. Very frustrating when you know you are truly helping, and pragmatism forces you to choose not to.

I'd advise against using it. He might be an idiot and as such guilty of recklessness or negligence etc, but you'd be guilty of "assault with a missle or projectile". 'Least here in FL. Not that personally I think such actions would'nt be justified but that's how the law reads.

From my observation of many young people today it appears to be more of the latter. Seams to be an entitlement mentality.

I used to keep a Spyder-Xtra semi paint-ball gun handy. With a full hopper. And have had to go pick it up from the ranger station once.............The drunk boater went to jail tho, sans a few large red whelps.
I was not proud of myself after that incident and was told in no uncertain terms, if I was caught with it in the boat again, I'd be wearing the braclets next time...
