I am looking for a 19-20 foot boat and I want a V8. Will the 5.0 be enough power to do water sports on a 20 foot boat? I had a 4.3 carbed on my previous 18 foot boat and it seemed to work ok but I think I could have used more power. I can not find a 5.7 20 foot boat. Maybe that is overkill for a 19-20 foot boat?<br /><br />Thanks!

Todd, The 5.0 will work OK on a boat that size. For water skiing you will want to go about 28MPH on two skiis and 32MPH on one ski. Tubes and other pull toys don't get dragged that fast. You can change prop pitch to give more pick-up if necessary.

I also noticed that the in the 2001 Rinker Captiva 192 the 5.0 had 240 HPs.(carbed)

i think the 5.0 will do fine for all-around use. if you're going to do mostly wakeboarding and if you're going to add fat sacs or anything, then you'll want the 5.7. or, if you plan to ride with a full crew then you'll probably want the 5.7.<br /><br />there's a trade-off in there with fuel efficiency too. smaller engine being worked hard with a lot of weight in the boat won't do so great but you're not talking a huge difference.<br /><br />how do you plan to use it? have you thought about an inboard?

In past experience, the 4.3 has been great....except when more than a few want to ride. As for the 5.7 you don't need that big of motor, just gonna burn to much fuel. Stick with the 5.0, will work really well.<br /><br />Belchy

Prop pitch is where it's at. Lower your pitch and you can haul *** with a 5.0. I would even say your 4.3 would fair well with the right prop.

I don't do much of this but when my grandchildren (age 17 and 18) visited they wanted to go tubing. I've got a heavy 24' cruiser with a 5.0. With six people aboard it worked fine. A little slower to plane than usual but not really a problem.

Todd:<br /><br />I think the best place to start would be the prop. I have a 1995 Tournament skiboat with the 350 (5.7) Magnum which has about 285 hp. The boat is about 20 feet and heavy. With your 240 hp and the right prop you should be able to pop a heavy slalom skier out pretty quick and easy. Good luck

High Five is a good hole shot prop. You still need to get the pitch worked out though and is ultimately more important. This boat doesn't exist yet, right? Prop shop after you get it . . . Also, the latest 5.0s are stronger than carbed 5.7s and even some EFIs, so this is potentially a rating issue, not necessarily a displacement issue.<br /><br />IMHO, deepwater starts with a big slalom skier will be the only thing that will be a challenge for either, and if he/she is experienced it should be OK. If this is unlikely, then no real issue either way.

Ok, so a 2001 woudl qualify as newer right? I have not yet purchased the boat partly becasue there is limited inventory for what I am looking for.

My 19 footer had an old 5L that put out about 210hp or so. Acceleration with a 4-blade prop was so strong that I never even bothered to give it full throttle. Run that Rinker with a 4-blade before you shell out for a 5-blade.<br /><br />Kelly

I have a high 5 on my 22' bowrider with a 5.7. I lost about 4 or 5 mph on the top end but it will still run about 54 at top speed. It takes off like a tractor though. I haven't had any problem pulling anyone out of the water and some of my friends are pretty big, 220+. I really like the prop, it runs so much smoother than the three blade and the time to plane is pretty much instant now. Last year I had my work group out on the boat, 7 adults and was still able to pull a skier without problems. They are expensive props but I would say they are worth every dollar.

Hey Todd, how's the search going? <br /><br />I think you already got my answer to this question in the other post. My 5.0L is more than enough on my 21'7" boat. <br /><br />As others stated, I would also suggest the 4 blade. It will increase hole shot but just as important, it will allow you to stay on plane at slower speeds for wakeboarding.

Hello!<br /><br />Well, it is going slow. Nothing is out there in between 2002-2005 range. I would like to stay around 20K but maybe I will have to wait until spring to find anything. I watch Crigslist and Boattrader Online everyday for the past 2 months. The same boats keep coming up.
