am looking at smart tabs, but nearly all the boat usage is for wakeboarding, i think they will vastly improve the boat handling but will they shrink the wake so much that it won't be usable for wakeboarding?????? can you just play with trim or add weight and retain the wake size????? anybody had any experiance???

Re: wakeboarding with smart tabs

Try a search here at this forum. Guess this depends on the boat and load, but it seems that several have complained that the boat rides so much more level with the tabs that the wake becomes smaller.

Several solutions come to mind:

1. fit the manual beaching kit on the Smart Tabs and pull them up manually when you want to wakeboard.
2. buy adjustable tabs, like Bennetts or Lencos.
3. with the Smart Tabs, slow down, trim the drive way out, and hope your stern digs in sufficiently to create a big wake.

Stevens is correct!

We will be introducing (very shortly) and new Bracket kit which will allow you to raise the Trim Tabs so that they are above the bottom of the boat. This could be used for rack storage inorder to pull them up out of the way from the fork lift, or for wake boarding when you want the stern to drop and creat the best wake possible.

The boat need to draft as much water as possible to creat a wake, the tabs will keep the boat more level and therefore reduce the draft. You will be able to run much slower and stay on plane which will increase the wake a bit over normal on plane speeds, but if the visability and a big wake are your goals them you will need to do the followiing.

Add smart Tabs
Add extra stern weight (ie: water blags)
Trim the motor out

I wakeboard on my bowrider and I find that the smarttabs help overall. They help me keep that 18-20mph more constant, and trimming the outdrive way out will dig the stern in and create a better wake than w/o the smarttabs -- the best of both worlds.
