I have used Amsoil and the motor seems to have much better low idle. A friend of mine at work and his brother in law both swear by it and have used it for 4 or 5 seasons. These guys usually pinch their pennies and do not go in for fads of any kind.

It may not be in tune with your new motor warranty however!

Ray,

The Federal Trade Commission ruled that hydrockracked petroleum products (Group III lubricants) can be called synthetic. Castrol Syntec is an example of a group III "synthetic" petro oil.

Dave

I used Amsoil in my '74 Chevy Vega with a Racer Jack Performance Cosworth engine and the motor exploded after 65 miles.

Direct cause of engine failure...AMSOIL!!

Vicosity broke down to the cosistancy of water after just 65 miles.

Don't believe everything you read and especially don't believe the salesman!

Been using Mobil 1 ever since and never had an oil related problem, and after 7,500 miles on the most recent oil change, oil still looks like I changed it yesterday!

Hey, if Mobil 1 is good enough for the Space Shuttle, then its good enough for my vehicles.

As far as outboard oils are concerned, I'll just stick to the Manufacturer's brand.

Kenny

Oilman is an AMSOIL dealer and doesn't want to chime in because he knows his products are no better than anyone elses!

Both 2 cycle and 4 cycle.

Ken

Re: Wal Mart Oil Goldmine!

he sure seems to know his oils, still irks me that just cause they cracked the oil a little differently .. all oil gets cracked in giant induction heated vats ... that it counts as a SYNTHETIC, which by inference carries the quality of Mobil One ... cmon, the advertisers did a great brain wash with that, and now its getting applied to natural oils, hmmmph!

Oilman had been quiet? No, he has a job and a life beyond these message boards. Jeeze -- you guys should try it.

Wayne, before you say something is a lie, you better take a look at past and current sponsorship of NASCAR, Indy, ASA, SCCA, WSA Snowcross, Motocross, and Formula 1 power boat racing.
And you are a Mobil1 user? Where do you get your Mobil1 gear lube, Mobil1 trans fluid, and Mobil1 grease?

Howdy!

The difference between regular oil and synthetic oil is this: Regular oil is an organic oil, meaning it is actually in the process of breaking down into simpler components all the time. Synthetic oil is man-made, so it does not break down nearly as fast as regular.

If I have made a gross error, please feel free to speak up. I got this information from my father who works in the petrochemical field and is an orgainic chemist.
