I borrowed a neighbors model, similar to the one you are looking at.

In heavy, 24" thick stemmed weeds and grass, it as just a plain old fashioned chore. Went through the plastic string very fast. i barely made a dent in the weeds before I had had enough. Never borrowed it again.

Probably fine with stuff a foot or less.

Those things kinda suck for everything except fences......we seemed to sell them 3 or 4 times before someone would keep it....everyone thought it would be easier to trim around their house with them, and really it's a PITA

get a Stihl FS90 for around $359 and tell them you want a brush blade.....works good on heavy weeds, and most saplings up to around 3/4 inch, and you can throw the string head back on for the regular grass trimming.....can you tell I sell these? LOL

Their is a purpose for every tool.

In some cases a hand held trimmer/brush cutter is easier. But....like JB noted their hard on the body as you get older.
I use both. Just got done clearing a over grown wooded area with the DR walk behind and the beaver blade.
It took less then half the time it would have taken with a hand held and much easier on the body. I will finish
up with the hand held and blade where the DR can't go.

In regards to the string gauge and type the general consensus on tractorbynet seems to be that the ultra heavy gauge doesn't work very well quite possibly because it's too thick to flex and straighten back out over and over again. I've got .135 star shaped string that came with it and I'm gonna go with the "Gator" brand when that runs out. I switched to the gator X shaped line in my weed whacker and it's a totally different beast!
