Re: walmart oil ?

Walmart TCW3 oil is NMMA certified and manufactured for Walmart by Shell. Any oil that has the NMMA certification has passed NMMA independent testing will be okay. It is decent quality for a good price.

Here is a link to what was NMMA approved in 2007:

Here is the link for 2008:

Interestingly no Shell manufactured oils, including Walmart's are on the 2008 list.

Very interesting not seeing Pennzoil 2 stroke oil's on the 2008 NMMA list. All the pennzoils were in the 2007 list from the looks of it. I wonder what the deal is with that. I did notice today looking at a 1 gallon jug of 100% full synthetic pennzoil and it did NOT have an NMMA logo on it.

I was considering the switch to a full synthetic after this full rebuild for my motor, but now Im second guessing what to do. I have used West Marine Premium plus 2 stroke oil for the longest time and never really had a whole lot of problems ( I believe my piston blew because everything was worn out), just a little smoke.

I too have been pondering this...I was going to try the syn pennizoil but I think I'll shy away from it now. I was wanting to switch to a syn due to what I've read on here about the cleanliness and better all around look of the inside of engines that have used it...I have a 78 140 seahorse and I want her to last as long as possible. All we have at our wal mart is super tech, merc and brp tcw-3, merc blend, and penzoil blend...I'm really interested in the brp blend in bulk..I'll have to check on that...I doubt our dealer will do that though. Great thread!!!

Ranger, go check with your dealer because he/she probably will sell in bulk. I never thought of it before because I premix, but for those with VRO engines, apparently buying in bulk from the OMC/BRP shop is common. In fact, my dealer told me the other day that BRP is pressuring dealers to buy more bulk oil for retail sale.

Re: walmart oil ?

After all this fuss, I e-mailed NMMA today, March 31 to find out what was up with the certification.

It seems they just sent the forms out. This is the response to my e-mail.

I hope that this has not done any harm, BRP is not on the published list yet either.

Subject: TCW-3 Oil certification.

Why are so many oils off the 2008 certification list? Is there something wrong with all of the TCW-3 oil products that are no longer listed?

Thank you for any response.
