Hmmm ... From the standpoint of one who travels a fair amount overseas, I am always glad when a busines "panders" to me and in all their greed will speak English and take American currency. Guess they should not do that, and I should learn their language immediately and only use their currency ...

Before I get slammed, let me say that I feel that anyone who LIVES here, or WORKS here should learn the language.

But to slam a company because they might be able to make an extra buck or two by speaking a foriegn language, or accepting a foriegn currency, is wrong. Yes, this is the USA, and if you are going to live and work here you should learn our language, but don't complain when a company, for the sake of the bottom line, caters to others outside your social, political, racial, or whatever, circles.

Just a thought ...

That would depend on the rate of exchange and who sets it. The fact that it is being done in Nashville, if indeed that is the case, seems a little unusual. Now El Paso or Laredo would seem a more likely spot. Money has no nationality.
Edit: But then again perhaps the number of singlelingual hispanics is greater in Nashville.

For all you Wally World haters out there, not to worry.

It will only be a few years now before it reaches "critical mass". The signs are already appearing. Same store sales are becoming difficult to maintain, there are just simply too many and way too close to each other and their corporate overhead is enormous. It don't look good for WMT.

Bob, good observation, but note that the next step has already begun: more stores means thinner profit margins which they are compensating for by reducing labor costs - some stores now have only one manned check-out lane, all the others are self-service. When all the competition has been forced out of business they'll be free to charge whatever they want. It'll never end!

Every Wal-Mart store in south Texas is hispanic oriented as far as the staff being able to comprende espanol.Now why would would Wal-Mart need to have a store in Nashville that catered specifically to just hispanics and not get a piece of the gringo buck as well? Do the spanish speakin meskins up there in Nashville not want any white trash shopping with em?Or ,perhaps the suburbia Nashvillians are luring the mexicans away from their Wal-Mart.Surely the local chamber of commerce and the city had some say-so on this project.Either way,seems to me that the concept promotes divisiveness.Like this country could use some more.But ,that's just my opinionero.

Edit: I did some research online and read that the new Wal-Mart in Nashville is not designated as a specific hispanic store but simply user friendly in both English and Spanish and will carry such target items as a wider variety of hispanic foods and such.The language description on the stores items will be listed in both english and spanish which is much like many retail stores in the US are becoming.Me thinks someone misinterpreted the Nashville news tidbit.

Looks like the Plainsman got sucked in on this one. Kalifornykid has obviously been to Chinatown, Ros Angeres. It is purported that there are second gneration residents living there who cannot read or write engrish, Many of the local hispanics in Southeastern Tulare county can not read or write period. They depend on the Spanish speaking who can. Want ads generally specify - bi-lingqual prefered. The power of the "new aristocracy" is phenominal.
