Re: Wanna Be Mechanics

I made a ton of money when the 6.0L power strokes first came out. I have been able to do the same, but then again there have been days that I have worked 12 hours only to charge out 4 hours worth of work. Eh,, that is why I pimp chips for a living now.

A very good book for anyone that has interest in mechanics is called The Automotive Encylopedia....By Goodhart + Willcok....it will teach you the principals of engines ,ohem's law ,magnetism, different fuel delivery systems...plus lots more...it also has review questions at the end of each chapter .....This book was part of getting your liecence when I got mine.....36 years ago...Now they have sample tests online try one see how well you do.....Years ago it was very simple with the basics but now you need different skills...just using newer scoupes ,scanners you have to train just to use them altough they are great timesavers halt the time you go back to the basics and common sense to fix the problem....I have always dove into anything to fix it since I always enjoyed success in the completion.....Even today some basic tests using some basic testers can go a long way....I must admit I'm still learning and always will just part of the business ...so never give up...research and learn

Re: Wanna Be Mechanics

Mechanics is my life,I love it,although some days are worse then others.I work on just about everything, except diesels.Never really was interested in them, except for the basic starter, glow plugs, ect.I can relate to working on the older,to the new cars.Just don't let anything intimidate you.If I have something dificult to do,I take a step back, and just look at it first.

Now boats,I am on my first boat, and basically,I have learned so much just from reading here.Just got done a few weeks ago changing out my gimble bearing, bellows, impeller, lower shift cable, all that seemed pretty easy after taking it apart, went back together like a carburator would for me.The shift cable adjustment is kicking my butt, but I will eventually get it right.
