Re: WannBe SCOW..

From the pics it looks like all the parts are there.
That's important.
Could be a nice project as long as the guy did not cut anything.
If its close and you want that size (16ft) go look.
Seems cheap to me.

Re: WannBe SCOW..

Thanks for the replies..

I called and left a voice mail for him to call me back.:)

As far as the trailer goes, We will see.... I do have a "Project" sitting on a nice bunk trailer in my back yard. That said, I "Could" just use that one if the one under the tinny is trashed. Right now, my 73 silverline is sitting on it... That project may go south anyway. the I6 isn't looking all that promising. Plugs 2 and 6 are both are rusty... I stopped there... I may just try to sell off the outdrive and cut my losses with that one. Best part is I only paid $250 for the silverline and trailer.

As far as the motor goes... My SIL has an idea or two. We will see how the hull really looks. I can only assume that the floor/transom is shot.

Now... If I can only get Mrs Nuboat to hop on the SC wagon....

THe best part is... My daughter and SIL have a heated 3 stall garage. :D Could be on the water on the May Opener... WHOO HOO!!

I just want you to know this... I cast blame on ALL of you!!! :p

I am surely turning into a SCOW!!! StarCraftOwnerWannabe

I'll keep you updated...

Thanks fellers!!!

$450 or best, make an offer. Looks like a good musky boat.

Dude, I think that is one purdy boat!

I think you really have to evaluate your needs ya know? Maybe give us a heads up as to what you might be doing in this here Starcraft. We could probably give you a bit better direction like closed bow v. open v. cuddy v. cabin. Length and what have you.

Tell ya what, if you are looking for a closed bow 16 footer that deal you ave there is tough to beat!

Have fun!

And ya, I blame these guys for all my problems too. It works.

Re: WannBe SCOW..

Primary use will be for fishing... I have my 20ft deckboat for "Fun" stuff. i.e... Tubing, skiing, trying to drown the offspring... hehe :)

I don't mind getting the Rinker out and playing. I just want a nice fishing boat that will handle like a sports car... Is there such a thing??

Wifey and I were looking for a "Tinny" late this summer but what was out there was priced Waaaay out line if you ask me. Now that folks need the room, want to have some $$$ for heating or wanting a Ice fishin' house...
I just figured... Time to jump in....

HHHhhmmmmmmm. Well, that rig you are eyeballing there is sweet, but, might an open bow be the ticket for ya? Or, are ya partial to the closed?

Fun stuff man!:)

Don't want to get TOOO excited...

The guy hasn't called me back yet.

Not partial to CLosed or Open... Either or...

Just that now is the time... ya know...

Best time to buy is when you don't really "Need one"

Thanks for the input Jas...

Re: WannBe SCOW..

it will be the "time to buy a boat" up there for another few months....like about 6.....don't be in a hurry, hold out for the boat you want. look at all the ones in the CL thread that turn up in those northern hellholes.

where do you usually fish? big water like Grt Lks? if so, you might want to hold out for an 18' or better. there are also lots of cabin boats....would a cabin help any to persuade the missus? how many people do you usually have along? this bears on issue too.

remember that a cabin boat wll be much more complex to rewire refloor retransom etc than an open runabout...most of those are pretty simple. the wiring on my Starchief intimidates me, and i've owned a # of brit cars and one FIAT....

i don't much worry abt trailers....even if it's a POS, it's cheap to weld in some reinf.

and you don't want to wade into the "I/O vs outboard" debates. almost as dangerous as failing to post pix. on that boat, the decision is easy. OBs are good, cheap, easily replaceable power, unless you want a 4 stroke in which case replace "cheap" with "2d mortgage on house" and "beg spouse's forgiveness"

Re: WannBe SCOW..

My 2 cents on the I/O vs outboard. if you're fishing smaller lakes an outboard has many advantages;

Easy to winterize and un-winterize, late season fishing
cheaper to get going (this is debateable I suppose)
great cheap power for smaller boats.

I/O advantages ;
better gas milage,
quiet operation
no mixing of oil in the gas

In my analysis I'O is better suited for bigger waters and larger boats (18 and over). I do see a lot of outboards on Lake St. Clair though.

Oh heck this debate goes on and there is no clear winner. You know how I decided? I didn't strongly favor either one, the best deal I got I took. Have a beer and flip a coin I guess.

I can be just as long winded on the Closed cabin (Starcheif/Islander) vs. closed bow (Holiday) vs. open bow (Mighty Offshore/SS). You want to know how I decided..............

Re: WannBe SCOW..

100% in agreement there Don.
That coin you chugged and beer you flipped (?) did you well. You ended up with the prettiest, most stable, fastest, reliable, universally compatible and desired boat known to man.

offshore

what can I say? Some have it, some don't

Re: WannBe SCOW..

My Rinker has an IO. I love it.. Lotsa power, quiet and fuel efficient. (As long as I don't drop the hammer for extended periods). I generally fish out of this boat and cruise the lakes here. I keep her between 3000 and 3500 rpms and that seems to be power curve she likes... :D

As far as the OB, it all depends now on what I buy. The Feller didn't call back. I am not going to get too excited just yet. I need some down time to think things thru abit. Jas stated Enclosed vs. Walk thru... Mrs. Nuboat likes the walk thru models. (As our rinker is) SO.. that being said... I think I need additonal consult b/4 I pull the perverbial trigger... (Mrs Nuboat) ;)

When I can, I want to change out all bellows in teh Rinker before spring. I figure, once I get started with Bellows and inspection of other parts and pieces, we will take the SC thought to the next step.

Thanks for all of the input and suggestions...

You guys are awesome...

If you want to fish, don't get a closed bow. My 2 cents.
