Re: Want to get a new prop for my boat. Need help
I have a 97 Maxum 2100 SC MN cuddy. I use it mainly for cruising, but occasionally pull a tube or something. The main problem is that when I have 5 or 6 people in the boat, it is really hard to get up on plane.
Should I spend the extra money and get stainless or stick with aluminum? Will keeping the same pitch and getting a 4 blade aluminum make much of a difference?
When I am at full throttle, I believe my rpms max around 40 - 45 (I could be wrong about this. It may be more around 35 - 40.)
Thanks for your replies.
Just a few things...The boats gearing is stamped on the outside of the lower drive...1.50 1.6 1.98 the numbers will show like those....I dont know how mechanically inclined you are but verifying the tachs are reading true is quite important within a 100 or 2 rpm. Props are a bit expensive
I suspect you way over propped.. that 350 in its time was maybe 260 hp....the gearing should be 1.5.. making a 17 or 18 a big prop for that boat
For example 1.5 gears 23p prop 4500 rpm gets 57 mph...So if you can post the gearing and true rpm
Heres a list that really helps bringing things into focus
ESSENTIAL DATA REQUIRED
When posting a question about propellers, you cannot get a reasonable answer unless you provide the following information in your post: Items 1-4 are essential for meaningful response to most questions.
1) Performance issue you are trying to correct.
2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless as a minimum.
3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).
4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful)
5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP
6) Boat make model, year, length and weight
