I have a 26 ft swing keel sailboat that sets in the water 2.5 ft. I want to see how fast she can go. mcgregors put a 50hp on there boats. can I at least go to a 30hp? The new honda is only 50lbs heavier than the 9.9 I already have.

she wont go fast, a sailboat is a displacement hull, while faster boats are planing hulls.

anything over hull speed will be a waste of fuel, extra weight on the transom, and extra strain on your rig. Install the max rated OB for your hull and call it a day. You'll be running it more in reverse for backing down, docking, and pulling out from your slip anyway.

Good advice.
McGregors are designed and certified for 50HP. Your's isn't.
Exceeding the rated capacity is both unsafe and stupid. If you're involved in an incident you'll be found at fault NO MATTER the circumstances.

There. You have been warned.

EDIT: I took out a comment....
