Want to put single thermostat sensor on '93 88spl. Would thermo housing be good?

As a place that is common to both heads I'm thinking the thermostat housing would be a good place.
The temp runs about the same there as the hottest point on heads.
Reason being I had a head bank run hot because of water deflectors after replacing all else and I want to monitor temp but only have room for one gauge
Looking for some input on this idea. Remember on. 4 cross flows thermos are in a single housing below heads.
Thanks for any suggestions
Todd

I always put mine on the (one) head. That gives you a basic idea of what is going on with the powerhead in general. Keep in mind that you have two overheat sensors-one on each head. If either gets to 212 degrees, the sensor will turn on the audible hot horn in the control box. It will be difficult to mount the gauge sender so that it is in flat contact with the rounded surface of the thermostat housing.

Put a temp gauge sensor on each head, get a three way switch going to the single gauge and just flip the switch to monitor each head.

This is indeed the best idea. Here is how it's done.

That sounds great. Just need to find another sensor matching the one that comes w gauge I like.
Thanks guys!

I like this idea also. Thanks for that idea!

Does each bank already have a port/spot to put a sensor/sending unit on? Never done it but definitely want this setup on my 88spl and 115.

Todd, if you go it, let us know how it goes :)

Roth
The sensors usually come w a z bracket that allows them to be bolted to head head cover bolt and. Contact head cover by just resting on a flat surface near plug pref. putting two on is no big deal but I'm thinking I'd rather not have to flip switch to see temp
So I'm sorta back to my thermo housing idea. I have a flat spot but no nearby bolt for z bracket to mount to
Still thinking it over

One thing wrong with your thermo hsg idea is you don't know which side is getting hot. The water comes out of both cyl banks.

I agree not knowing which head is hot immediately but you would need to shut her down regardless. Then I'd measure w or thermometerto see which cyl is running hot.
Bad thing about only having sensor on one bank is just that... You only know one bank
Granted the over temp sensors will sound at 212 deg but that's too hot in my book

This is what I came up with that is non intrusive and will give an average temp reading from both cyl banks.
