I'm new here... Well, new to boating in general. Little about myself mid 30's. Mechanic by trade. Father and avid bass fisherman. Live in South Florida born and raised here. Been busy restoring my 1st boat. I picked up a 14' gamefisher tri hull. Paid $400 for boat, motor and trailer. It was in pretty bad shape. I've been reading posts to get help with the restoration and decided joining would be a good idea. Boat is Just about finished. Already put it in the water a few times and it went ok for the most part. Anyhow, just wanted to introduce myself. I Look forward to meeting y'all

Sorry for bad quality pics. Really had to shrink them down to get under 400kb. Any suggestions on a better way to post pics?

Actually, they look fine. You can always use a photo image hosting site like photobucket. Resize them there and copy the IMG file and Paste it over here.....

Welcome aboard, Lawnmower-Don. Yes, we LOVE pictures. Just a word of warning ... watch out for that WIMUSKY ... he has a lawn mowing service by trade, so he should be an EXPERT on lawnmowers, but he lives in Wisconsin where they have 1 day of summer on a good year ... so not sure how much his butt is actually in the seat of a lawnmower! Isn't that right, WIMUSKY?;)

I repair the lawnmowers.... Doing lawn maintenance in South Florida is crazy. Especially in the summer time. Did it as a kid. Never again. On a side note. I think my motor is mounted too low. Cav plate is about 2-3" below the bottom of the boat and not riding above water at top speed. For reference. 14" game fisher tri hull. 9.9 gamefisher motor 8x8.5 prop. Was topping out at 12-13mph with me 250, wife and 4yearold daughter weight? Let's say 170combined? So roughly 450lbs with 9.9 i know 12mph is pretty good but if i can go faster I'd like too. Gonna raise the motor using wood and plate about 3"and see if it improves

Welcome Lawnmower-Don! :welcome:

You did a good job cleaning up that old Gamefisher. Sounds like you're on the right track by raising that motor too. :eagerness:

BTW - I used to live in Royal Palm Beach back in the late '70s. Of course, it was a one horse town back then!

Raised the motor about 3". Looks pretty even with bottom of transom now. Gonna take it on the water tomorrow and see if it gains any speed or rpm. Won't be a fair test cause I'll be solo without wife and kid in the front but should give me an idea of where it's at. And if the boat will actually get up on plane with the little 9.9motor.

Still some equestrian areas out here but Royal palm has come a long way since even the 80s. I Like it out here. Good place to raise kids. Plenty of nice parks, great bass fishing and not much of a "bad element"around here. Better than west palm for sure

When I was there it was mostly dirt roads. Lots and lots of empty dirt roads with no houses.

Plenty of nice bass in those canals though! :fish2: :D

Oh it's developed quite a bit since then. Still some rural-ish areas west of my location but very developed for the most part. You have to go west of rpb blvd to even find a dirt road. A, B, C roads still kinda rural acreage areas

It has been about 5 or 6 years since I have been through RPB. Usually am closer to the coast and WPB when I am in that area. One of our "older," now inactive members, snapperbait, and I have done some fishing in the intercoastal waterways and off shore of WPB. He sold his center console :blue:, sad day!

Raising the motor seemed to help a little bit. Yesterday after work a buddy and i took the boat out. Was getting 14-15mph. Instead of the 12-13 i was getting. Boat still won't get up on plane and the cav plate still isn't getting to the surface. I don't think the little 9.9 has enough balls to get this boat up on plane. Maybe i can find a 20or25HP to put on the tri hull. The boat it pretty heavy and I've strengthened the transom quite a bit. Im pretty sure it could handle a bigger engine and would go a lot faster. The rpms on the 9.9 don't get very high pushing this heavy glass boat

my gamefisher was not a tri hull and only 12' but I 15 worked well. I think you are right in looking for a 20+
