Wanted too Share oil leak from hose . Could have destroyed my new long block

Few months ago I had a shop install new long blocks using all my accessories . Twin 4.3 GXI Volvo Penta with duo props

Volvo's oil filter design is separate from engine .
Filter spin on assembly mounted too riser Two high pressure hoses returning too engine
During that day seas were ruff and I stayed close too shore . Guess that was a good move .
Oil pressure gauges was within range NO INDICATION OF ANYTHING WRONG
Later that evening I opened engine room deck and too my horror OIL ALL OVER , Bilge loaded
Under part of deck had oil . That was an indication oil was coming from top portion of engine ?
Upon further inspection one of the high pressure hoses had a pin whole .
I was lucky was not bone dry , lost 3 pints . Hold 5 .
Did an emergency Deadliest Catch fix , had heat tape , clamped a hose over tape and it held . Ordered a new hose and came within a few days . What a mess cleaning up
No low oil buzzer , Nothing too indicate anything going on
I was lucky I stayed close too home port and not running that new long block empty
What can I purchase and install ( were ) on engine oil & water temp rising too high

Good save and this is why I do not like remote oil filters! Even though we suffer to get at filters in many marine installations, I am going to leave mine where it is....have to remove the rear seat to replace it, but only once a year!
I recall that there was some kind of recall, or service bulletin from Volvo on those lines possibly leaking. I guess in a twin engine installation you have to have remote filter mounts....

Lou, when I first got my boat, an oil change was one of the first things I did. I hadn't even gotten far enough to consider removing rear seat...I somehow managed after great pains to do it with the seat in! I used an empty antifreeze bottle with a large hole cut out of it as the oil filter drain pan and didn't spill a drop into the bilge. It must have taken me 2hrs to get that filter off...I used a Mobil-1 filter for 4.3 chevy from wal-mart and it's housing is as thick or thicker than the Sierra or Volvo OEM filter. It is also rated for 15k miles in a car...I think I will change the oil yearly but the filter every 2yrs LOL...what a hassle...but yes, I clicked this thread because I was thinking of a remote kit and you and the issues the OP have had have talked me out of it for now LOL.

I modified the rear seat area years ago to make it easier. I cut the big bulkhead in half vertically and put a hinge in the center. The rear seat is a pair of 36" benches (pontoon furniture) and I can take one side out at a time. It is much easier that way. I could have shown them how to design it for a mechanic. However, the new boats that have all that molded in 'glass around the engine REALLY turn me off. I'd never ever buy one. My next boat will be a modern outboard powered boat. I'm done with fooling around with car engines in boats.
