have around a 69-70? johnson 20 horse seahorse with electric start. when giving it gas to go it acts like it wants to slip out of foward gear . you cant even hold the shift lever foward without it kicking. it acts just like you hit something in the water. dont do it going backwards at all or foward very slow.

sorry peter, but read my post from 2 days ago, it will sadly answer all your questions..... change your lower unit oil and i bet it will look sparkly.... 50hp shake and bouce

youre slipng out of gear , but only when there is enough pressure against the transom from the thrust of the motor do you notice it...... check that oil and let us know

sorry but that didnt help.the oil was full and i replaced it.and no metal! still it felt like it was slipping out of gear. you yhink that maybe the shift rod is bent and its not fully seating into the gear. it feels like it slips out and then catches!

your gonna have to take it apart and have a look if anything is outa place.... what is the model number and serial of your motor... you need a manual if you dont already have one.. also
if you have the lowerunit that comes apart into 2 peices right in the middle, its a lot easier to open them up ... and by the year you may have i thnk it is..... if its after 1970, i can help you cause i have that manual
