Warm Climate Winterization

I live in San Jose, Ca. It rarely gets below 32 here but we do get 1 or 2 days every year where it gets down below 32 but never below 28. I have a Glastron 2001 GS249 I/O board. What about just throwing a thermal blanket over the engine??? I really hate to go to all the trouble of removing 4 very hard to get to hoses and drain plugs if I don't have too.

Sure that will work, as long as the weather reports isn't wrong or you miss it, it doesn't involve a storm that could knock out power, or you are off on a long weekend somewhere when the weather gets colder than normal.
It's just a matter of how lucky you feel.
We are also very lucky to know that the weather NEVER does anything out of the ordinary.

When I lived in Los Angeles, I did not know what winterization was all about. We had nites that dropped below freezing in Dec and Jan but the days were always warm enough to keep the block heated up.

I think if I had it to do all over again, I would have still used antifreeze (just for corrosion control) for the six months of inactivity.

What about RV antifreeze? It's biodegradable. Has anyone done that??? How would you get it in the system? I have a RWS (Raw Water System) I think it's called. It’s not a closed system. It pulls water from the lake when the boat is in the water. I use "ears" to flush the system. What if I cut the hose off and stuck the open end in to a 5 gallon bucket of RV antifreeze? Would the pump be able to pull it into the system?

Don S, I'm not sure I understand your reply. I'm not suggesting using an "electric" blanket but just a thermal type cover. Hey, I'm new at this so be gentle. 8). I'm not trying to escape something that must be done but just looking for "smart alternatives". I mean, why waste hours of your time if it's not necessary.

There is no way you need to worry about freezing in San Jose. The few hours you ever get below freezing are not enough to overcome the huge amount of thermal mass that you have in that engine block.

You already have a thermal blanket around your engine...it is called a boat.

Roger that Master Chief... d:) I bought this boat 3 years ago and have never drained out the water and I've not had a problem to date but just want to make sure.

A blanket won't protect the drive and any water located in it.
