Warm-Up Lever?

Hello all, I recently aqcuired a 1973 16' Mirrocraft with a '73 85HP Evinrude. Starting procedure for the motor states to raise the warm-up lever, but I don't have an additional lever at the throttle/shift control box. As far as I know, all the controls are original, but not sure that the motor is. The motor always starts easily, but may have to be started several times before it's warmed up enough to stay running at idle. I have a FSM on order but it has not yet arrived. In the meantime, is there anything else I should be looking for, and/or can parts be added to the throttle control to allow for fast idle? Thanks.

Re: Warm-Up Lever?

I had the same issue on mine- could not find the warm up lever. However, I found the the throttle lever pulled out slightly from the housing and shifted forward, putting the engine in neutral and giving gas to the motor for warming up.

Re: Warm-Up Lever?

If you have a control box that is external (you see the cables coming into it at the rear) there should be a fast idle lever at the top of the control box. If you have a internal box where the box is behind a side panel and all you see is the lever, you either pull out on the lever do disengage the gear shift, or you push a button. Either way, you then move the lever forward to get throttle only.

Re: Warm-Up Lever?

I have the external type control box. There is no lever or button besides the throttle. There is a bare screw at the center pivot point of the throttle lever, although there doesn't appear to be gear/teeth/slot that would be able to accuate anything. Is it possible that something used to be mounted there?

Put your finger on the very of the control box. Slide it to the back edge of the box. If there is a lip with a plastic piece on on it, put your finger under it and raise it up. If no lever there, try pulling straight out on the lever and moving it forward.

Re: Warm-Up Lever?

I'll give the two suggestions a shot. It'd be great if it's that simple. Thanks much.
