Hey, I've recently discovered that my exhaust tube is leaking water. I assume that the bolts worked themselves out and the exhaust tube is loose. Does this require an engine pull to repair?

When you say exhaust tube... do you mean the y pipe? or the manifolds that kook like headers? If the Y pipe is leaking, yes you will need to pull the engine. If it is the manifold then no.

Howdy,

The only exhaust "tube" I can think of with "bolts" in it is the Y-pipe. They normally don't get loose. You could have corrosion in it someplace that has produced a hole if you're operating in salt etc.

This water could be coming from somewhere else too...You might remove your riser connections and see if the y-pipe moves.

If it does, you might be able to get a socket down there with an extension on it but you may not be able to get to all the bolts ....

I would get in there with a mirror and positively identify where the water is coming from though....

Yea, I'm talking about the Y pipe. I can feel the exhaust pressure and hot water dripping down from back there. It's been a freshwater boat all of it's life so I can't imagine it's corroded. We'll see. I've had this problem before with other boats. I'm surprised its not common.

It's not common because there's an "O-ring" that actually seals the connection. The bolts that hold it all together are stainless steel and tighten up directly against the transom mount. If they're torqued correctly, they usually don't get "loose".

It shouldn't be common either..... If it was, there's be a LOT of "sunk" boats sitting in marinas!!!

Make sure your riser is not leaking and then just running down the y-pipe. My glastron did that when i first bought it.
