Warning alarm on '95 60HP Mercury Tracker

The last 2 times I've been out, the warning alarm (presumably heat - long steady sound) has gone off while motoring at slow speeds. The first time I think there was some sediment in the system because hardly any water was coming out of the spitter. I flushed the motor and it was putting out good water, especially at higher RPMs and the water coming out was nice and cool. There was a ton of water coming out through an opening in the shaft above the lower unit. Not sure if this is normal - can someone please advise?<br /><br />So after flushing the motor and taking it back on the water, the alarm started going off while trolling at very low speed - about 1.5 mph. I stopped and let it sit for a bit just in case it was really overheating and then started up again and it did it again shortly thereafter about 3 more times that night, all at slow speeds. I didn't run the motor hard for fear of doing some real damage if there was a problem. The motor has oil injection and it has only gone through 1 qt. this whole summer so I would presume everything seems ok there?<br /><br />Anyway, before taking it to a mechanic, just wondering if there are any things I can check out on my own that might save me some bucks.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Mojo

mojo,<br /><br />If you do not know when the last time your water pump was serviced, you're overdue.<br /><br />"Service" means replacing the water pump impeller-minimum.

Does that engine have a thermostat? If it does, I would check that out, with low speed overheating. Good Luck, Joe

I also have a 95 Bass Tracker with a 60 hp Mercury. I have had same problemn you have described. Set the alarm off very briefly once when I got into some mudd. And ever since the alarm buzzes when I'm trolling. That was about 6 years ago. I acctually cut the wire to the buzzer under the dash for a couple years. I just always checked to may sure I had a good water stream coming out of the motor. I desided to get my local mechanic to fix it last year while having it serviced. including a new water pump.. He told me the only problem he found was the wire was cut to my buzzer and he reattached it. LOL So once again I have that little buzzing sound while I'm at low speeds. Feels like I'm having a hearing test going down the river. Let me know what you find out.

Just started with this board but I have seen a similiar issue on my 1996 60hp Tracker. If the alarm for the temperature/ oil level sounds and no alarming condition exists the cause is most likely the alarm module. This happened to me. Alarms under many different occasions with a new water pump. The Mercury Service (shop) manual has a simple test.<br /><br />Rockonafly
