The promo's and ads for this movie are not clear what it is about. It is about two MEN that fall in love.....with each other! I am not going into gay rights or "lifestyle choices", that can be debated elsewhere. Just want to make sure that anyone who thinks about seeing this movie is Ok with gay rights and comfortable with seeing Gay men "relate" to each other. If this is not "for your taste" you may wish to skip this movie. Personally, I think the makers of this movie could do a better job durring their advertising to let the public know what it is about. In my opinion, if you do not approve of this movie, it is not enough to walk out, after you have purchased a ticket, you need to demand a refund. In my view, show all the gay movies you wish, just be up front with the advertising, so that the public is aware what the movie is about BEFORE they purchase tickets. By the way I detest the way some media outlets are claiming this film as a financial success, they are using missleading numbers to do this. This weekend King Kong and the # 2 film (diaries of Narnia) earned over 30 million each nation wide, brokeback Mountain did not even place in the top 20 ! However, due to the few screens that are showing this movie, they are claiming top dollars based on the number of screens that are showing this (in my opinion trash). Again, someone trying to call this film what it is not.

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

I heard about the movie several weeks before I saw the first promo for it. As stated the ads do not deluge the basis of the movie. In fact after seeing the TV ad for the movie I asked the wife if she knew what the movie was about. Her response was "Looks like another cowboy flick to me" Needless to say she was surprised when I told her about the gay angle

I thought the advertising was as clear as it could be without actually showing them having sex. And if you paid any attention to the reviews and the Golden Globes, everyone said it's a long term love affair between two married cowboys. They must have shown different ads in Peoria, you know to se if it "would play in Peoria"!
Without going into gay rights or "lifestyle choices" you sure did let us know exactly where you stand. :p

Please don't take this the wrong way as it's not meant as an insult........

I'm just very surprised that anyone didn't know what that movie was about before seeing it.

The theme of the movie was widely known around here long before it's release. Perhaps it's because of our proximity to Massachusetts.

I don't plan on seeing it myself, not my thing.

well, not sure what you saw, but what we see here is the tale of two cowboys. The most "descriptive" part of the promo is one guy putting his arm on the other guy's shoulder. Movie trailers should give some clue as to what the "theme of the movie is" without expecting people to do further research. And yes, my intentions should be very clear, if you want to show something like this, let people know what it is before they pay to see it....let them vote with their wallets.

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

In the previews that I saw, he does a lot more than put his arm on his shoulder. He comes up from behind him (no joking!) and wraps his arms around him, in preparation to kiss his neck. Pretty clear intention!
As far as having to let everyone know, I think that info was out there for anyone who wanted to find it. I sure didn't have any interest in the movie (I go to VERY few movies), and I knew exactly what it was about from 3 different sources. SO I will still disagree with you, the advertising and publicity was clear, you just missed it.

Again, I don't care what "leaked out" on talk radio...THANK GOD! Or what the "golden globes" said or what the "rumours were". If you want to show a gay movie.....put SOMETHING in the advertisements that let people know what it is.......a voice over about true love while showing scenes of men with women and then one second of a guy with his arm on another guys shoulder......sorry...that is just missleading propaganda.

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

Saw the pathetic movie trailers several times last night, no scene of a guy about to kiss another guy....at least not here. Even the promos for the hbo series "six feet under" used to show men kissing from time to time.....not to shocking, but people knew what to expect if they "tuned in"

I havent seen it the trailers nor do i care to,but they show different trailers in different cities if theres alot of gays in a region they'll show more,if theres more hetros then they'll show less, and why there saying its doing so good is because the critics love it and in my opion most of the critics lean that way,i heard on the radio it may be up for a goldenglobe award, next they'll make a biker movie.

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

I have seen LOTS of movie trailers that didnt give any clear indication of what the movie was about. The hype of Broke Back Mountain, which I keep unfortunately calling Bareback Mountain for some reason, has made the subject matter pretty clear IMO. I suspect it is a fairly dull movie otherwise.
I always read reviews before I pay cinema ticket prices anymore. I see very few movies at the theater and like to have some reassurance before I hand over that kind of money.

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

I will most probably see it when it comes out on video, i very seldomly go to the movie theater, i order the movies that i wish to see from Netflix.
I have seen all sorts of movies in my time some good and some not, some that were excessively and horrendously violent and gory and some that were not, i have seen some with the affairs of two or more women. Why not one with the affairs of two or more men?
I like movies, all sorts of movies, y'all can bet ya tootsies, i ain't one to be offended by a mere movie.

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

In defense of Hollywood I was beginning to think they were all out of topics and down to remakingold movies or turning old TV shows into movies. So I guess this is different but probably just a generic love story with a gay twist. Im not ofended by it just skeptical and indifferent. I put Casablanca in the CD player this weekend and maybe Lonesome Dove again.

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

I heard that the initial showing of this "film" was to open in 69 theaters nationally. Kinda odd IMO.

Did these guys use "bear grease" seein' as how their in the mountains way back when?

Just another hype movie to promote acceptance of that disgusting life style IMO.
