"Just another hype movie to promote acceptance of that disgusting life style IMO."

Our opinion on this subject matter differs, Generally speaking, if a movie depicting war or the mob is shown, it does not mean that war or criminal violence is being advocated.

Some prefer coke, some prefer pepsi, it has nothing to do with the acceptance or politically correctness of any one demographic, its different strokes for different folks, just as one aquaintes oneself of a product prior to purchasing, one ought to apply the same measure prior to the viewing of a film.

Should have been named "Bareback Mount Men" would have clued the masses as to the type of movie they were going to see. Can you imagine the look on the faces of the unsuspecting movie goers as the exit the theater? Every straight guy will come out with their face covered so as not to be seen exiting a gay flick.

I can see it now Monday morning around the water cooler: Say Dan ya know who I saw coming out of Brokeback Mountain last night? It was Joe from marketing, you know the guy with all the hot office babes after him. If only they knew. :D :D

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

Look EF, just as some find throwing cig butts out the window of their car disgusting, and condem those who do toss butts, (see the thread about this here on Iboats) I find gay mens sexual practices disgusting.

And I understand that this film may not have been in promotion of the gay style. But, current perception of some (me) is that this is the case. I believe this is the intention due to the lack of the films promoters providing some sort of content description.

So due to different strokes for other folks, butt throwing is acceptable practice......???

Pretty offhand comparison.....but why is one behavior acceptable and not the other. And do not tell me that what gay guys do is their personal business. When social diseases like AIDS, a fairly recent disease, affects our health care costs due to these behaviors I do have a position that is correct.

The smoking issue for example as related to health costs. Employers are discriminating against smokers due to the smoking/health cost risk.

That said, should not employers discriminate against male gays due to the health cost/risk of their sexual practices....ie...the potential of acquiring AIDS??????

Sorry sir, the movie makers and those who insist on persuading me to accept the life style will not win with me.

That all said, I do appreciate those who are aquanted with gay friends and relatives needs of acceptance for their loved ones in their lives.

Just do not expect me to hold similar tolerance just 'cause other folks do.

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

Everything else aside, the cost of making a movie is a small fortune. I doubt anyone is going to dump that kind of an investment into something as speculative and controversial as this movie’s subject without some assurance of a return, i.e. solid, realistic projections on theater ticket and dvd sales. I’ve never even heard of this movie but I’m guessing it’s not likely to be a shabby movie, more likely our personal biases will affect our viewing experience more than anything else if we saw it. If it came from Hollywood, it is a ‘formula movie’ so it can’t be too offensive to anyone except extremists.

I have some friends that make movies. Not Hollywood stuff, indie films. The budget for 1-minute of 16mm film is $1000. That’s not for salaries or sound, just the cost of cameras, film, processing and editing of the visual image. And that is doing it as cheaply as can be done. Now you know why indie movies are only 20 or 30 minutes long.
:D

Thats the point of AIDS HM......was originaly associated with back door deal, now has become prevelant in women too.....brought to them from men who "went where no man has gone before" so to speak.

Anthoo...the cartoonist Aron? McGruder, a Black dude, did a neat week or so long daily strip on this film. Excellent in this cartoonists synical way of viewing society.

I'd like to hear the opinion of someone who has actually seen it.It may be a great movie to see, once you are beyond the initial prejudice.

Pat, Throwing cigarette butts out whilst driving is against the law in Texas.
Like i previously mentioned, we differ in opinion on this subject matter, i am certainly not persuading anyone to accept anothers lifestyle, but was not your "Beargrease" inuendo inferred to derogate?

LOL EF, the bear grease deal could be derogatory, but there are the KY products that are on the shelf now. Personal Lube as I know it. Back then those "on the Mountain" had to make do hey!

My gripe here if any is that this film was presented as mainstream. Least thats how it was presented in the Milwaukee Media (Urinal/Sentinal)

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

There was a skit on Saturday Night Live several weeks ago, about two male prospectors out in the boonies, and they were "partial" to each other. It was supposed to be a trailer to a movie, and I can't remember what they were calling it, but I would swear it was "Bareback Mountain". Anyway, I didn't even know Brokeback existed until I saw the review for it on Siscal & Ebert. The only thing they had said was it was about two male cowboys falling in love. I didn't even know anything about them being married and all that. I have seen all the commercials for it, and there is one shot where one does come behind the other and embraces him in what could only be an intimate way. There is no way to misunderstand it, and not knowing anything else, i would know it was a movie about two dudes tearin' it up out in the woods. No way to misunderstand. Do I want to see it? I don't care one way or another. if it ends up on HBO and I have nothing better to do, I'll watch it. I am pretty sure I will not be converted to wanting some hot man on man action. I saw "the crying game" a million years ago and I didn't run out looking to hook up with a transgendered male...

On a side note, you will notice that both Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllinhal (the leads in Brokeback) wasted no time releasing new movies that place them in far more hetero situations. I can't imagine that is accidental...

Moore doesn't make movies. Never did. He makes sloppy infomercials for the democrats/communists (same thing).

Re: Warning...Brokeback Mountain...movie

Fly Rod, just so that we are clear, I did not see any kind of "extended" 2 or 3 minute trailer or comming attractions promo at the theater. My post is purely talking about the 30 second TV commercial that they are running here for the movie. The commercial shows all kinds of panoramic views of the mountains, pictures of the men's wives, and ONE SCENE of the men standing next to each other with one guys arm on the others shoulder. The voice-over cleverly only uses the words "love story" while they are showing images of the women. There is no way anyone could possibly think that there is gay content and certainly not that the movie is a GAY love story from this commercial. If it were not for comments about this movie on talk radio and church groups, I would not have any clue as to it's theme.
From some of the other posts on here I have to assume that there are longer and more descriptive commercials that let people know what this movie is about.....good. So I again have to question why they (the makers or promoters of this film) feel the need to produce commercials that are missleading for some markets, yet use full dissclosure in others ? Sounds to me like they are trying to boost their numbers by tricking people. If they are so "proud" of the movies theme or content, what not say "GAY love story" in the voice over ?
