I have a 1995 130hp Johnson - I used the boat fairly extensively on Saturday. Towards the end of the day, I was getting intermittent beeps from the warning horn. (it happened only 3-4 different times ) When I say intermittent, I mean that there was no cosistency to the tone. Typically when the boat was either going slow or getting ready to plane. I ran on plane at around 4500 for nearly 45 mins without a buzzer sound. According to the label from OMC, it mentioned that 1/4 tank oil of oil will trigger a beep every minute, and there would be a higher number of beeps for no oil.

I am concerned because I was running on a full tank of oil. Is it possible that there might be an issue with the sending unit ? a faulty vro ? Are there any suggestions to diagnosis this ?

It could be a faulty horn. Did the beep have any relation to hitting wakes or the boat jarring? It should be a self test horn (it beeps every time you turn the key on) but if it's not, it'd be best to replace it with one.

Look on the web..or what I do is call the dealer on what the buzzer sound does. When I first noticed it..I thought it sounded like a coil not turning. Each one of the sounds at times has a meaning..they are easy to find. Post again if noone answers or you can't find and I would try and go look for it.

Hadley - thanks for the response. To answer your question, every time the motor is started the horn makes a noise. ( I assume you are referring to this as the self test ). The chirps that I was hearing, were approximately 3 quick chirps in a row and then it would stop. Does anyone know if this means anything ? I know there was a full tank of oil, but for arguments sake - if there were little or no oil would the buzzer have continued to persist for the full hour of riding ?
