Warning buzzer on 150 black max mercury

I have a 1989 mecrcury black max XL2. The warning buzzer has never worked. Upon buying a manual I realized that there should be a warning buzzer for the oil injection and temperture. I looked at the wiring diagram and found that the buzzer should be located in the control assembly and connected to a purple and tan wire. I disconnected the control and opened it and found the buzzer missing. The purple and tan wires were just plugged into one another. Did some controls come without the buzzer or was it removed? Can one be added between these two wires? Any help greatly appriciated. Thanks.

All V/6 engines came with a warning horn so yes you can reinstall it, the down side is in most case they have been removed because of other problems making them blow a bad sensor or oil module making the horn sound and people just remove them rather than fix the real problem. The upside is to have the peace of mind the system i working. I should also say some had horns mounted under the dash so ck there before buying a new one.

My current boat has a Quicksilver 2000 single lever control. The buzzer is located in (strapped to) the wiring harness near the control, not in it. I don't think this control is made to contain a buzzer, but that's just speculation....no room for it.

The 3000, as I recall, has the buzzer built in.

For ID purposes, the 2000 has a big black button you have to push in to get the throttle/shifter lever to function as fast idle throttle only. The ignition key is remote. The 3000 has a fast idle lever, horn, and ign key all built in.....much better critter.

I've had both. Would much rather have the 3000.
