warning horn operation

I have a 1986 Johnson 90hp outboard engine. The warning horn sounds/pulses some times when in gear and trimming the engine up or down. With muffs on the engine I can get the alarm to sound some times. When I turn the ignition off and back on right away the warning horn does its test beep but does not sound again. I have remove the vro system and unplugged the oil level warning harness. That should leave only the temperature sensors in each head connected to the warning horn? I thought if there was overheating sensed by either of the temperature sensors the warning horn would sound continuously? Not sure why the horn would be pulsing or why it does not sound when I cycle the ignition switch. Before I take anything apart or cut any wires any ideas? I should add that the horn sounds sometimes within seconds of the engine starting.

An update. I was looking at the vro system on the engine. There is 4 wire harness going into the engine harness. Just wondering if it would sense no oil flow? I did disconnected it and I have not had the pulsing/beeping alarm. Fingers crossed I may have stumbled onto the problem.

But post #1 said you " removed the VRO system "-----Yes, disconnecting the no oil warning system will silence the alarm.

Agreed, that was your problem.
