warning horn stays on

I have a 1995 70H.P. Evinrude with oil injection.The last trip out it ran fine,but when I got ready to leave the lake and turned the key on the warning horn stayed on. The engine was smoking so I think the oiler is fine also it was pumping water so I don't think it was hot.I got it to stop by unpluging the wires from the oil tank which was full. Is this telling me that my problem is with the oil tank pickup?

Kev,<br /><br />If your oil tank has never been serviced-it's high time. It might be full, but full of what?<br /><br />Remove the tank.<br /><br />Dump out ALL of the oil and replace the fiter sock.<br /><br />Refill with good TCW-3 oil.<br /><br />Run 50:1 mixture in the main, fuel, tank until you notice oil useage from the oil tank.
