Posted earlier about a non-functioning warning horn on my 2000 Merc 200 w/tiller.

If the horn is in the ingnition switch, and doesn't work...do I need to replace the whole switch assembly??

Mark

Re: Warning Horn

Just curious,,, Has the oil pump been removed on your motor....

I'm not very familiar with your engine year, but if it has oil injection and the pump has been removed the horn will not sound when the ignition is engaged....

Re: Warning Horn

No...Everybody tells me to short out the temp guage to hear the horn...And I did. But I didn't hear the horn (Non functional, I assume). Dealer that installed the motor says the horn is typically next to the Ign. switch(which it isn't). I'm goin' nuts trying to find it.

It quit working after the first trip out on the new motor. Fuse somewhere?? Horn blown out??

Help!!

Mark

Re: Warning Horn

Mark, on my motor(different yr & hp) the purple wire from the ignition/choke "key switch" leads to the buzzer and a purple wire and a tan wire leads away from the buzzer. I hope that helps you in finding the buzzer,if it turns out that the buzzer is faulty, just replace the buzzer, but before doing so follow those wires and make sure that there's nothing loose, frayed or corroded.

Re: Warning Horn

Buzzer should be in the shift/throttle control assembly, or nearby. Like Elmer said, follow the wires.

Re: Warning Horn

I have a year 2000 Merc 200 with the same problem. It is on a Pro Line 20 Walk. I had to get in behind the dash to find the horn. It is just a little thing about 1" in diameter. There is a Purple wire from the ignition switch and a tan wire with a blue stripe from the engine. I ran some tests with a multimeter - found 12 volts on the purple wire and then ran a test wire all the way back to the engine to check resistance/continuity on the tan/blue wire and checked that this wire goes to ground when shorted. Then I ran 12 volts to the purple lead on the horn and ran a test lead from the tan/blue wire on the horn to ground. The horn made no noise so I figure the horn is bad. On the horn was the part # SP 509 and 5-15 V DC and the name Floyd Bell Inc. I did a search on the internet for Floyd Bell Inc. and found them with no problem. They do not list this part as it is a custom item but I emailed them and they have them for $25 plus $5 shipping and handling. I am not sure of the exact website and I can't figure out how to get off or here to look it up but I think it is either floydbell.com or floydbellinc.com - you will find a way to email them on the site. Another site - boatfix.com says they have the horn but I could not cross reference the part # so don't know if it the same one. I am still waiting for the part to arrive so can't tell you yet how it all turns out.

Re: Warning Horn

Thanx RiverRebel. After consulting with a mechanic for the dealer who installed the new motor, and looking where he told me the horn would be...It's not there (which is what I figured...because a couple of us who are somewhat mechanically knowledgable can't find it.)

So...anybody out there wanna enlighten me on how to properly install one??

Mark

Re: Warning Horn

Not having a motor exactly like yours I can't guide you in detail. Can say, however, that the horn (+ alarm module, oil- and temperature sensor) and all related wires & testing is described thoroughly in the Seloc manual for my motor.

For this and any future service you may want to do, a manual will prove well worth the bux invested..

Link on this site ;)
