Re: Warrantless Search

You are free to leave the country at any time. I'm sure you'll find somewhere out there where no one will bother you.
Yeah... you better stop expecting to be treated like an American or you'll be asked to leave.

The Coast Guard does a hell of a good job protecting our shores from all kinds of threats including drugs. I think froggie has some issues.

UFM, DR, ztim- kiss my butt.
I had some jerk coast guard step all over my upholstery, wake my kid up and crawl around my cabin. All my safety gear was on deck. It is very easy to step from the swimstep into the boat without ever stepping on the cushion. Glad you think the coast guard can leave their manners at the door.

Don't give me this rediculous carp about how every coastie is a hero. Every cop is your friend too... give me a break.

UFM- why don't you come try to make me leave the country? Until then I'll keep paying taxes and voting.

DR- I live near the ocean, not the desert, so don't talk to me about regurgitating what I've heard about the coast guard.

ztim- glad you think the cosst guard is protecting us from drugs... wake up!

Yep, the jackbooted thugs stopped me & looked in every crevice.....
For no reason at all......
Didn't even have a beer aboard....
Wasted 45 minutes of my fishing time....
All the while container ships are cruising by full to the gunwhales with drugs & illegal immigrants  .....
I asked if they would remove their jackboots before boarding, but they refused  .....JK

I think froggy has a toe up on this one. I can picture a "happy-go lucky-above the law type individual as described. In every basket there's alway a bad apple.

"Sometime you get the bear. Sometime the bear gets you".

That is true, it is still legal.

Other things that used to be legal:
*Blacks must sit at the back of the bus
*Blacks can not drink from the same fountain
*Blacks must use a separate washroom
*Etc

Does that mean those laws were good?

I submit to you this: My boat qualifies as a second home and is deductable accordingly on my taxes. The fourth ammendment protects my home from warrantless searches. I believe the laws permitting the boarding and forceful inspection of my home without my consent are unconstitutional.

Re: Warrantless Search

get a vessel safety check and be sure to have the sticker displayed. usually keeps the coasties and DNR off my boat.

don't do anything wrong. that helps.

don't have anything to hide. i could care less if someone searches my boat. i love to show my friends my nice boat.

rubberfrog- your home is situated on property you own. your boat isn't. that's one difference.

Vessel safety check sticker- agree completely.

Don't do anything wrong- Mr Law Abider here.

Don't have anything to hide- nothing illegal here.

My car isn't on property I own. How come they need a warrant/probable cause to search that?

Swear I was told once upon a time we had a 4th ammendment.
Maybe we gave it to the terrorists.

I'd rather the government just come right out and tell us straight up the Constitution is null and void. That way we might be prepared to give up our persons, houses, papers and effects without any quarrel at all.

It's a matter of life and death after all.
I really need to know if I need to bow to the king and his men.

Re: Warrantless Search

Well, that search seems way too extreme. I'd be mad as hell if they did that to me. I've been stopped on a few occasions here and each time the CG officers were very nice, polite people. That's the CG. On the other hand we have an RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) patrol at our favorite summer anchorage. Even though everyone is well behaved and 'legal', they like to be... bossy and rude on occasion. I don't know why they'd want that reputation but it's clear that is what they want.
