I'm about to buy a new boat and I am getting conflicting reports on mercurys warranty plan. It appears to be the worst in the industry as far as standard length of coverage. Can anyone shed some first hand knowledge on this? Motor in question is a new 125 ELPTO 2002 model.

Check the edition of Trailer Boats that can out tody. They have an excellant article on warrantys. What it boils down to is that despite all the manufacturers hype and no matter what your warranty says that you are pretty much at the mercy of your dealer. All warrantys have a list of exclusions a mile long that dealers can hide behind if they want to.

Buy the extended warrenty from Mercury for 5 years. The cost is reasonable. You must do the recommended maintanance and not abuse your motor for it to be honored.
