You sure have more faith in humanity than I do. Good luck with it.

Most folks would not buy a motor of any kind with out running it and most boaters who know anything about boats would not buy a motor without a in water test.

You are right, very few used motors in the Wausau area. I believe all the dealers dump their motors to one guy. He is in Marshfield and only sells them on ebay. He sold over 120 motors in 2003.

As stated above, please tell us the model number and horsepower of the motor.

If it runs good, the price is fine. You should not wait until spring to run it though.Get a barrel and fill it with water or put earmuffs on it and put it on a stand and RUN IT.It takes no time at all to re-winterize it.Check the compression after you run it.Better you do all this now in case there is a problem you can straighten it out with the seller soon while he still remembers you.The longer you wait if there is a problem ,the less chance you stand at getting it corrected.Charlie

If the motor is in good condition, you got a good price.

I have almost the exact motor, but a 1985 johnson.
It should scoot your Alumacraft along just fine.

Perhaps too fast, depending on the model of your boat. I have a 15' Alumacraft which is rated for 50hp and handles my 35hp just fine. But I was in my grandfathers 14' Alumacraft, which was narrow and tippy. His 7.5hp was plenty to scare me. Or maybe it was his driving. :p :p

Perhaps you could swing a deal with the marina/dealer you bought it from. I'm sure they have a test tank in their shop. Ask them for a test run in their tank.

If that doesn't work out, contact me. I have a water tank in the yard that we could fill and give it a try. But I'll only be available on Wednesday the 23rd.
email babybirds@direcway.com
