Re: Was it something I said?

Welcome!
What to bring:
A good night's rest will help keep the nerves from jangling before a launch.
A show of patience for the others with you. A spilled soda, forgotten sunglasses, keys locked in the car, etc. is bound to happen; make the first day fun for everyone, no matter what the screw-ups. B e p a t i e n t .
Plenty of water, juice, and a first aid kit for pinched fingers, headache, etc.
A chart of the waters you'll be playing in. Study the chart before you go, so you'll know where the shallows are. If the area is tricky, invite a boating neighbor to go with you to show you the pitfalls.
Willingness to ask for a hand. It's no big deal; we've all been in a jam before.
Safety. Bring lots of safety.

One warning I see that is recurring is issues related to launching. Since I have a lift and no trailer, it sounds like I can focus my screw-ups elsewhere. Should the drain plug be removed after every use, even with just boat lift "storage"?

Good question, normally I would say yes, but what if you have a lift failer and the boat sinks. I would start a new thread so you will get better results to your specific question. Go ahead and start a 'NEW THREAD" and Welcome to Iboats.

hi to all...another Marylander getting ready to join the club! I think we are closing the deal Friday on a 09 Chaparral 215ssi. I am further north than you OP guys. Live in Harford County, about 20 minutes from York, PA. Probably will be housing boat around Middle River. As 1st timer, I appreciate finding the safety course a few posts back. Definitely will do that. Come spring, we'll be out on the Bay. If anybody knows of cool places to go north of the Patapsco, we're all ears. Any other tips or helpful hints for a newbie always welcome.

Hey Phil, welcome. I am also in Hazzard county, we live in Jarrettsville, and put in at Lapidum and cruise all over the Upper bay.

Here's a great thread for you.

And I have a facebook group for us locals here,

Quite a few of us iboaters boat the Upper Bay, I try to get out a couple times a week if possible during the summer.
We just did our first annual fall foliage run last weekend. :D

Never read or saw your first post but perhaps it was what you didn't say. Most new posters that get the most of the glad your here, start off with ( Hi ya'll I'm new and etc, etc ).

Plus as mentioned you'll see some sites get virtually no attention and after awhile you pretty much go to new posts to see whats going on anyway. I don't have a lot of time so about the only things I look at or respond to are those where I feel I could be of help.

So best of luck to you and a hearty Southern (WELCOME YA'LL)

Absolutely Yes to the drain plug. Another hint. I carry a little notepad and pencil in my glove box so If/when I find that I forgot something. I can write it down and put it in the boat for next time.

I tryed that-
Still can't find the danged pad
