I am in the final stages of installing a new below deck gas tank. yesterday, I was installing my fuel fill hose, and i got really nasty black stuff all over my hands. Should I wash out the inside of the hose? I am afraid that stuff will get into the gas/motor. I'm not 100% sure that the residue came from the hose however.

Are you CERTAIN you used the right hose? New alcohol resistant hose?

I would install a good (large) inline filter and monitor it.

Maybe you should go back and examine the hose again and if it from the hose, now is the time replace it while the deck is out. I am also in the process of changing below deck tank. My hoses looked good, although I am replacing the fuel hose from the tank to the Honda/Racor filter.
I saw somewhere on the net the other day a real cheap place to buy filler hose, about 1/2 the regular price but can't seem to find it right now. It might have been here, Whaler board or Classic SeaCraft where the link was located.

It is definitely the right hose. USCG certified Alcohol resistant fuel hose. I'm now thinking it was a combination of silicone sealant residue, and handling the OLD hoses that I took off. Those are amazing prices! I paid almost 9 bucks a foot at my local place! Thanks for the great link!
