Yup avoid the carbs and do not spray inside or under the flywheel. I have used napa spray brake parts cleaner which dries fast.

I just rinse motor with a garden hose without a nozzle so no great pressure to force water into places you don't want it. Then after it dries, use WD-40 and an old toothbrush to clean all around in tight places. A thin film of oil/lubricant on all surfaces may protect from moisture/corrosion. Once you get motor really clean, it'll pretty much stay that way with a minimum effort and no strong detergents/solvents. Good Luck!Any thoughts on using a engine clean/foam on your outboard then hosing it off..Good or bad idea?
