Washington State and NASCAR, any truth to this?

Saw this and wondered if there was anything to it. These are considered harsh words where I come fromd

Some Democrat lawmakers speaking in the legislature of Washington State recently described NASCAR fans as “toothless, white trash rednecks” and said of them “These people are not the kind of people you would want living next door to you. They’d be the ones with the junky cars in the front yard and would try to slip around the law.”

...the Speaker, in fact — implied that NASCAR identity Richard Petty [above] looked like a drunken felon, saying “You mean the guy who got picked up for DUI?” In fact, Mr. Petty does not drink alcohol.

Yep, it's true.....
The people of the state of Washington are weary of for profit corporations getting public funds to build their venues......
The Mariners got a new stadium, even though it was voted down by the taxpayers.....
The Seahawks got one.....
The Sonics want one, even though Key arena was redone about 12 years ago.....
We've pretty much have told Clay Bennett to go scratch....
Now NASCAR.......
If they are gonna profit from it, let them pay for it....
I for one don't care if they have it, if'n they are willing to pay for it......
Watching NASCAR is about as boring as watching paint dry, IMHO......
The tickets to any of these venues are exhorbitant, anyway....
I'd rather burn the money the boat's gas tank...........JK

With all the ladies in the infield of Talladega flaunting their assets on Saturday night before the race , I understand it would make Mardi Gras seem tame - make a NASCAR fan out of any chess player.

I was on the infield at Daytona in 2004....
The scenery was breathtaking, I must admit....
I don't think I ever drank more than that weekend.....:$

well..the problem is there are toothless rednecks all over the country..we have our fair share in Wa. state as well as oklahoma does..!!JK!!.....but yeah...nascar wants to set up a track somewhere..they keep looking for a place to stick a track and the locals rejects it......now they are over at bremmerton pushing for a track there...now we have a really nice road track at Seattle internationa raceway..S.I.R...why they don't try and expand that is unknown to me.......

The reason they don't want a road course is they don't sell tickets like the ovals.
And as for all the comments by the Washington delegates. They can kiss my red neck .......
Anyone remember grunge????? That came from Washington state and I would rather a Nascar fan live next door then someone thats going to eat a bunch a shotgun pellets because the world "is a bad place".

This topic shows the genuine disconnect between the DC elite and the common man.
Their stereotypical bias makes me proud to be a disconnected NASCAR fan!

I have an infield RV site with electric in Darlington. this will be my second year. I lived in Concord, NC (the NASCAR capital) for 11 years. Any politician who thinks it is a scene from Porky's has their head is a dark place. There is more money spent at the track in an hour of a cup race day than in three nights of a baseball game. And two nights of an NFL game. Remeber you are talking about super speedways here ... anything new is going seat (and that is just seat) at least 180,000.

I can attest to what RV-Dean just posted.

Went to the Vegas event, both races. Holy sh**, there were more people spending big dollars on anything and everything. The restaurants and hotels were full, I can only imagine how much was spent at the casino's. It took two hours to get from the track grounds into downtown Vegas. I was blown away.

As far as NASCAR itself, still on the fence. But those drivers have skills, and the cars are fast and loud. You can't get the feel for the real thing from television.

I must say, I can see what all the fuss is about, and there are tons of red-necks there, but there were rows of Cads, BMW's , Lotus's whatever, big money.
