Of course, if you have a Johnson outboard on your boat, you never have to worry about it starting. :D

LOL. Had a '71 Johnson, never was a problem with it starting, it was running at WOT for more than 2 minutes without stalling out.

Where's the shame in stopping and pulling forward again if it starts getting away from you? So many times I see people over correcting and getting in all kinds of trouble.

Re: Watched an ugly trailering. Should I have offered help?

I'm never too humble to offer or accept help. (in certain situations)

When my father still had his little Ford Ranger we had a heavy old fiberglass boat. One day we were trying to get it out and the truck was just peeling out. A guy was standing there watching and yelled out "Y'all need a lil' help?" I yelled out "heck yea!" and he came and stood on the bumper with me and it was just enough to suck the boat out. I thanked him, shook his hand and we we parted ways. I wouldn't hesitate to help someone in the exact same way if the need arose. We needed someone to help push the truck down, that boat wasn't leaving that lake unless those tires had more weight on them.

Back on topic, don't beat yourself up. Sometimes I see people struggle and I'm just not in the mood to deal with them or I didn't do such a wonderful job putting the boat on the trailer myself so I don't have the self confidence to help someone else. I don't hesitate to help if I'm in the right state of mind and it also depends on their appearance. If they are quiet and appear embarrassed I'll offer help. If they are loud and obnoxious, well they can figure it out on their own. If anyone is or appears to be drinking, forget it. I'm getting my standard candy bar from the marina's store and I'm outta there.

Both boats here have Johnsons on them. One boat is apart gettinga new transom and some balsa core repaired and the other blew it's powerpack a couple weeks ago and is waiting on $$

Exactly it's no big deal so don't get freaked out about it.

I'm with Nandy - there are times to help and times to get the heck out of the way, thus insuring that you go home with all your body parts. I try to be a helpful person but the most that I would have done here, is to offer a few suggestions, the first of which would have been for the Dad to do the boat driving!

Always reading these threads makes me enjoy the small backwoods lake I live near and the private landing at the campground.
