Gasket on water jacket around spark plug went bad. I'm replacing the gasket, is there a trick to better sealing than the gasket? Thinking a bead ring of silicon gasket around plug hole before bolting the plate back on might help???

Re: Water around spark plug

Hopefully, it is just the gasket, and not a crack in the cylinder.

Just to make sure, take the plug out, and look very closely at the flat spot where the plug seats to, and see if you see a crack.

I had an old 115 merc that cracked from the plug hole out about an inch. I took off the water jacket plate and took it to a machine shop, and they were able to aluminum weld it for me. They only charged me 70 bucks I think.

I would think you could get by with a High-temp RV sealant, if it's just the gasket, as I don't think it would get hotter then 600 degrees.
