I finally got the motor running. 55HP 1971 Chrysler. It is in a large lawn can filled with water. As I let it run for a minute I did not see any water coming from it. The water was churning hard. I could not get it in neutral. It is submerged more then half way up the lower part. Where does the water enter and exit from. Could it be it is coming out from the lower part and that is normal? I just put in a new thermostat and faced the point toward in the head. Is that correct? Can you give me some things to check.
Thanks

Re: water circulation

If the motor was setting for any length of time then you probably need an impeller. The pick up is on the lower part under the cavitation plate.
There might be a couple of holes in the middle housing, water should be comming from there and from the exhaust snout.Jerry

There is a hole the size of a coin on the back top part of the lower unit. Is that the exhaust snout you are talking about?
