 1966 Chrysler 50hp model#50661. I have basically a mist coming out of the pee hole but there is plenty coming out of the snout on the back of the mid-leg. I think that I should be getting water flowing from the pee-hole, am I wrong? What would cause this and what should I be looking at or correcting ?
Thanks for any and all help.

Happy Boating to all.

Re: Water Circulation

On the hose U might not be getting enough water. How old is the impeller
Hows the water pressure? U talking about the hole in the mid leg? That's a pressure reliefe port.U might not get anything but a mist comming from that. Most exhaust is gonna come out the snout.Put it in the water and then see how much water comes out.
U install the pee hole right? Is the pee hole plugged?Bugs get in there and make a nest.J

Did you install the tell tale to your outboard? I'm asking because these motors did not have a factory installed tell tale. At least my 66, 50hp didn't have one. Could be the impeller or the t/stat. Like Jerry said, could be some sort of blockage. If you don't have a tell tale, I just installed one and it works great. I'll try to upload a pic for you.

ljc>>>>>>>> someone else installed the tell-tale. On my motor , they installed it where the round ( welsh ) plug is _ _ in the top center of the head . I may change it to the way yours is. Thank You and HAPPY BOATING

Re: Water Circulation

The exhaust water temperature on my motor is 130 degrees . Is this the correct temperature or do I have something else wrong ? The impeller is is brand new I just installed it . Tell-tale isn't blocked by anything , I just unscrewed it from the head to check .

AF, my t/stat is 130 degrees, so I think you're engine is running at the right temp. An easy way to check your impeller pump is to remove that plastic hose. When you start your motor water should shoot from the exhaust manifold. You should get a good stream flowing out. Obviously, you don't want to run the engine very long like this but give the motor a couple of seconds to pump the water through the system. Make sure the entire lower foot is submerged in water, which fills the pump housin intakes. I would have mounted my tell tale in that "welsh plug" but mine wasn't threaded. I didn't want to drill into the head. My setup works well and it shoots out a good stream of water. I was concerned about limiting water supply to the head so, I choked the hose size down to less than 1/8th ". I just kept inserting smaller diameter hoses until I couldn't get any smaller hose. Also, I wired a warning alarm to my thermal switch. Just for peace of mind.
