just change the gasket and go, or underlying condition?

is that brown wire that just runs to the head there just stop there, or does it go through into the jug area? aka... anything I have to worry about?

Maybe I can't see well, but is that water coming from the spark plug area?

And you are concerned about the wire, interesting

no no, the gasket has broken there, the water is hitting the spark plug and spraying.... here is a link so you can look at it in your browser http://i.imgur.com/X1doN.jpg

the question about the wire is more, its 'silicone' in place there , does it run through into the jug, or does it stop there.

The temperature switch is in a blind hole in the cylinder head. When you remove the water cover to replace the gasket, you could pry the temperature switch out to inspect it. The switch needs to be watertight when you replace the cover.
