I have 1990 50HP Evenrude/tracker outboard. Last weekend i was idling in a cove with a cold engine and noticed that water was coming out of the Exhaust. Is this something to be concered about? It only happend that one time. The rest of the day it was fine. Any thoughts

Thanks
Paul

Paul
It's supposed to do that. At an idle there's not enough uumph to push the exhaust out down by the prop (backpressure). You'll notice the water and exhaust will transfer to the "thru the prop" area as you accelerate. Not to worry!!!! Not sure, but it's probably more noticeable when the Tstats are closed (cold).
Enjoy

my '71 60hp realeases a bug-killing smog while warming up at idle. I would agree it goes away once Tstat is open or up in the Ripums.

K

Re: water coming out exhaust

Before I installed my pressure gauge, that's how I would check my water pump functioning on the MANY occasions when my telltale tube would get stopped up - by looking for the mist/spray. I would also feel the engine to make sure it wasn't over heated. Since then I've discovered that my overheat alarm does indeed work reliably. And the pressure gauge, love it! My tell tale gets plugged up so often I'm thinking of just removing it - right now I have both a tell tale and the pressure gauge, but never look at the tell tale anymore.

If it IS NOT spitting at idle or flowing with some rpms it is time to replace the water pump.
