I have had this motor for a year, when I started it in the barrel this spring in the barrel I noticed water coming out just below the cowling and around the lower mount. I honestly don’t know if it did it last year or not, everything else behaves normally, good tell tale. When I start it cold it takes to 30-40 seconds for it to start coming out those 2 places. Water immediately comes out tell tale and exhaust ports. Looking on the web this sounds fairly common but no real answers, is it normal?

I have found some info that suggests it's a base gasket, how bad is it to pull the power head?

Water seems to be coming down the inner exhaust housing, which would be correct. Maybe the foot needs to be tightened up to the outer exhaust housing.

I would say it is normal.----But remove lower unit and replace that rubber seal for exhaust.---I doubt that it is the base gasket ?

I pulled the thermostat housing to replace the thermostat and pressure reliefs and found no thermostat and no pressure reliefs. I’ll get the lower unit off later today or tomorrow.

It is NORNAL for water to come out behind the lower mount brackets. But maybe not that much. It is water that has escaped from the water pump housing where the shaft passes through. If it were not drained off, it would rise up and damage the powerhead. Yeah, check those water pump seals.
