Hello, please help! I'm 9/10 of the way there of my new engine install thru help from this forum! thanks everybody, i know spring is a busy time for everyone here.

I just put in a new engine with a 1988 bravo 1 drive. I am using a rebuilt raw water pump from my old mercruiser engine. The water won't come out through the exhaust. When i remove the raw water hose (that comes out of the tansom assembly), no water comes out of the hose even though the muffs are on with hose water on full blast. Ive cooked one impeller while doubting myself that i hooked it up right, now i have a new one and dont want to cook it again. I recently put the drive on after it was off for winter and didn't notice any obvious blockages. Also, I could blow through by putting my mouth on the raw water side of the hose that comes out of the transom assbly. PLease help!

THanks in advance,
Mike

I wouldn't necessarily expect a conventional pair of muffs to seal well enough to blow water through that hose all by itself. Mercury offers a better kind that has a pin that passes through the intakes and the cups are held in place that way. I use nothing else on a Bravo. It makes a far better seal and can't slip out of place.

Are you sure you have the hoses placed correctly on the pump? Some pumps have the IN on the top and some have the OUT on the top. If you have them switched, the pump will burn out in less than a minute.
