Water Deflector Length

Doing some maintenance on my 1978 35hp Johnson.


How long are the water deflectors supposed to be? The old ones I pulled out disintegrated so I have no way of measuring them. I tried sticking a screw driver all the way to the back of the spot in the water jacket, but it comes out double the length of the old (rotting) deflectors I pulled out.


Any help? I can't find a part number. IBoats says it's obsolete.

The part # for 1978 35 hp is 318357 and 2 required. For 1979 35 hp is 318357 and 3 required.

Thank you! That helps a bunch. Found a couple on eBay and they're 1.5in long.

They are nothing but standard rubber hose.---------Put hose in as far as it will go and trim flush with the block.---I use high pressure fuel hose.-----Note--Water does not go through this hose and solid rubber O-ring material can also be used.
