water dripping from shift lever.....57 johnson cd 14

im about to replace the impeller on my 56 johnson. it also drips water from the shift lever. is there an easy fix for that drip ?

There are some washers and an o-ring on the inside of the housing around the shifter.

You have to pull the powerhead to work on the water pump, so it is a great time to fix the leak. Remove the screw from the inner shift lever (inside the housing) and slide it off the shifter shaft. Then pull the shifter/shaft out of the housing and replace the o-ring. Warning!! That inner lever will break if you attempt to shift it with the screw removed.

thanks guys, i will grab an o-ring kit, and fix the drip. ( and will remember to replace the screw!)
