Water/Elec Code questions

As I mentioned in the other post we are gonna be building a house soon. Water main is on my side of the road. The elec is across the road but the power company will go overhead and set a pole as part of the install. I am going to be running the water line myself. I would like to run the electric underground so as to not have to cut any trees down. Can I run the water line and electric in the same trench? What type of cost per foot am I looking at for the elec? I assume it will need to be in conduit. What all am I looking at here?

I was looking into the same thing recently, except I'm having to run utilities approx. 2500 ft. I was told that the code, at least here anyway, specifies elec. must be in a ditch 5 ft. away from the water.

Not allowed By BOCA or IBC code that I'm familiar with.<br />Direct burial of cable may be allowed.<br />Electric & pipes can be run under roads without digging them up usually. I forget the machines name that does it.<br />Electric work like what you're doing usually requires a liscenced electrician for pulling permits & making connections.

The elec comp is going to bring it over the road for me. I want to run it underground from my property line to my house. I am guessing that a pole with a meter and a cut-off switch and then go underground.

Here in the state above you the electric co. will bring the power the pole, even set the pole for you. Here it is the electric contractors job to have the box from there to the house (usually underground). They can set the pole, you can hang the meter box and the main below it and run the wireing. They usually will not give any power until there has been an inspection done. Check with your local codes before you do anything though.
