Thanks for responding Jim & Bo.<br />I just pulled it apart again and the water tube is only about 12 inches long. The gromets appear to be fine. Is there another at the power head? If so how do I go about checking or replacing? My manual isn't very specific about the cooling system.<br />Thanks, Mike

Don't start a new post, keep the old one going. The water tube is a brass tube approximately 12" long with a couple of bends to get it centered. It has a similar rubber grommet at each end. The upper one is just shoved up into a hole at the bottom of the engine holder (which is at the top of the driveshaft housing). You may be able to clamp a garden hose onto the bottom of the water tube and pump water into it and check for leaks at the top and anywhere else. The water leaves the top of the water tube and circulates in channels cast into the engine holder and then goes up into the powerhead. There is a gasket at the base of the powerhead between and the engine holder and the powerhead. The water then goes into the cylinders (some of it leaves the cylinder through the pee stream) and eventually the head and then exits the head through the exhaust housing and exits the engine through the exhaust relief holes and the prop exhaust. It seems to be coming out between the power hesd and the shaft housing. I just hooked a hose to the water tube and I get water all through the engine but there is a lot of it coming out at the top of the shaft housing.<br />Thanks, Mike

Specifically where is the water coming out of what you are calling the shaft housing? Between the powerhead and the engine holder at the powerhead gasktet? Underneath the engine holder where the water tube inserts with a grommet? In a crack on the front, starboard, port, or rear? Water is supposed to exit the exhaust relief holes at the rear of the engine holder. Go to www.brownspoint.com and look up an exploded view (parts page) of your engine. If its coming out of the seal between the powerhead and the engine holder you would need to remove the powerhead and replace the powerhead gasket.

Thanks Jim,<br />It appears to be coming out between the power head and the engine holder. Looks like I'm going to pull the power head next. The Browns Point website helped out a lot. My Seloc manual doesn't show much about this. It's opening day this weekend and I'm off for the week so I guess I'm using the trolling motor till I get back. You mentioned in your previous post that there was alot of salt when you changed the head gasket. If you remove the powerhead you might very well find the the engine holder is packed with salt corrosion and very likely cracked. I've seen it once or twice over the years. I don't know if the design flaw is in the engine or in the owners manual where they out to print FLUSH ENGINE ON A REGULAR BASIS in bold type on the front cover for those of us in salt water. The biggest giveaway with this problem is you can't really see it from the outside and can never quite figure where the water is coming from until you take it apart and it becomes painfully obvious. Good luck..I hope I'm wrong.

Those 137HP Mercaha Outboards are notorious for this problem.
