The sportjet engines are outboard power heads. The water passages in the engines are rather small and if you get enough junk sucked up into them you can block water flow and overheat the engine. If you cut in a raw water strainer in the hose before it enters the exhaust manifold you can catch the junk before it enters the engine. They have a clear bowl and fine mesh stainless screen. Unscrew the bowl and screen,wash them out and your good to go.
