water getting in #4 cylinder

Hey guys rebuilt my MerCruiser 140 1984 model. Everything is including wires, points, condenser, plugs is new anyway went to fire it up and it would idle great. When you throttle up it was missing like it was starving for gas, so I removed the plugs and found that the back cylinder was getting water in the combustion. The plug was clean. I dont see any cracks in the head or block and manifold looks good, any ideas. Thanks

Well, anytime you have an manifold that is exhaust and intake at the same time I would take a much closer look there. <br /><br />You would also want to suspect the Riser and the Riser-to-Manifold connection. If you have the older 'two-piece with a twist' riser system then you have double the connection problems to watch.<br /><br />As everything is new and everything is just fresh put together I would tend to suspect everything... from the head gasket on up.

Dwayne,If you didn't have this water problem before the rebuild,it probably is a gasket/gasket surface problem.Start by checking the elbow gaskets,then the manifold gasket.Possible head gasket,but rare.Are things torqued to spec?<br />DHP

Hello, Is the engine new or did you strip it down and rebuild it? If you pulled it apart and reassembled it you might have missed a warped head as a cause of your leak. You might have to pull that head again and have it checked for straightness. If it is warped you can have it shaved down to compensate. I would also do as Yoced suggests and check out your manifold, riser and riser gasket. Let us know how it goes.

Hey guys I had the head surfaced doing the rebuild but come to think about it I did have the same problem before the rebuild now Im thinking manifold or riser leaks anyway Im going to replace the head gasket while I got it down and have the manifold checked for leaks and replace all the gaskets. Ill let you know shortly. Thanks
