So before I meet with mechanic dude, I plan to put the boat plug IN, raise the boat up front as much as I can and fill the bilge with water. The bilge in my Sea Ray is quite large. As I fill with water, is there a certain fill-to and STOP point where I won't get water into vital engine areas? The transom plate/mount area looks real tight and solid. I would like to rule out a transom seal if at all possible.

Ayuh,..... That's worse than a Bad idea,....

As AD says, the weight will be too much, 'n the starter will be the 1st expensive part to go swimmin',....

Back the boat into the water, crawl into the bilge, 'n LOOK,....
It's the ONLY way to find a leak in a boat,.....
Use yer phone or digital camera to put yer eyes where yer head won't fit,...
Ya gotta SEE the leak,...

A selfie stick can really help you find the leak. Lets you pir your cellphone camera where your arms can't reach...
