Hello,

I have a 1989 Volvo Penta Invader it is a AQ131 style motor if that helps

I was driving it out of the cove one day and next thing i know the boat slowed down and then i killed it and then it started smoking so i was like what when i looked it over heated on me. Well the next day i went out and looked at it and found out that the Impeller was all wriped up to peaces and there was no water in the motor. Well i was woundering if the water pump is now no good and i have to get a new one or do i just only buy the Impeller and pu it in. I already bought the impeller i just hope that the water pump is not bad on me now.

Please help me thanks ya'll

Are you talking about the housing? You'll have to look at the housing, and see what kinda shape it's in. If it's worn out, replace it.

If you're talking about the circulation pump on the engine, no, don't need to replace it.

More than likely, the impeller was just old, and you can just replace it with a new one. It's actually a pretty simple project. If you've already gotten the old one out, you're in great shape! Just put a new one in there (dish soap will help lube it up, and get it in there).

Make sure you flush out all the old parts of the impeller out of the system before you put it all back together, or you'll have blockages that will cause overheat issues.

Okay, you should have two water pumps. 1 of them is bolted to the center of the engine block, the other will be bolted to a bracket. The one on the bracket is the "Raw Water Pump". This is the one that you replaced the impeller in, correct?

If you've got all of the pieces of the impeller out, you should be fine. Try running it on muffs before taking it out, and make sure it's circulating water...

Alrighty, well no matter, whether the raw water pump is in the drive, or on a bracket on the engine, you should only need to replace the impeller, and you'll be good to go.

What drive do you have?
